Red Hat will officially launch its virtualization portfolio at the beginning of September. The information was confirmed yesterday by Franz Meyer, Red Hat’s director for Southern Europe during a phone interview : The solution should be GA (for General Availability, note) on September 1 “, he explained. Red Hat’s virtualization solutions are currently undergoing a round of private beta.
Since it bought Qumranet, Red Hat as made a strategic decision to use KVM as its core virtualization technology. KVM is at the heart of Red Hat Entreprise Linux 5.4 and of RHEV-H (its stand alone hypervisor). To round-up its offering, Red hat will also launch a suite of administration tools. Their perimeter is still unknown (VM Administration and provisioning, Lab Management, Stage Management, High availability, Fault tolerance, etc ?). To get a full picture of Red Hat Virtualization portfolio, we’ll have to wait a little more
BY the way, VMWorld 2009, VMware’s virtualization conference, will be held in San Francisco between August 31 and September 3. I Guess Red Hat’s Launch Date was carefully planned. Which should make VMworld 2009 all the more interesting….
