Today, VMware published its 4th quarter results. And what results. Once again the company managed to grow far faster than the IT market with revenue growing 25% compared to Q4-2007 (to more than 514M$)and profits growing about 34% (to more than 111M$). Revenue for the full fiscal year increased 42% to 1,88 billion dollars and net income reached a record 290 M$, up 33%. These stellar results, in a less than shiny economic environment are largely due to a big increase in VMware services sales (+66% for the full year) and to the steady growth of license sales(+30%).

VMware’s result were once again a bright spot for EMC, its mother company, which also announced positive results and a modest growth. The situation should remain the same and we can expect VMware to outperform VMware in the coming year. According to Goldman Sachs, VMware has been the preferred technology provider of CIO (in terms of buying intentions) during the last 7 quarters and should remain the leader for the next two years. Did you say crisis ?
